Fan Banned from UK Stadiums for Racial Abuse of Semenyo

London- August 18th 2025

A football fan has been banned from all stadiums in the United Kingdom after being found guilty of racially abusing Antoine Semenyo, a forward for English Premier League club AFC Bournemouth.

The incident took place earlier this year during a Premier League match. The fan, whose name has been withheld for legal reasons, sent offensive messages targeting Semenyo, who is of Ghanaian descent, through social media after the game.

Following an investigation, UK police arrested the individual and charged them with a hate crime. A court has now handed down a three-year ban from attending any football match in the UK, along with additional legal penalties.

The Premier League, AFC Bournemouth, and several anti-racism groups have praised the decision, calling it a strong message against discrimination in football. “There is no place for racism in our game or society,” Bournemouth said in a statement. “We stand fully behind Antoine.”

Semenyo, known for his strength and pace on the field, has remained focused on his game but expressed his disappointment at the abuse. “As footballers, we want to inspire people, not be targets of hate. I’m thankful for the support I’ve received,” he said.

The English Football Association (FA) and campaign groups like Kick It Out have been calling for stricter punishments for racism, especially online, where abuse is harder to control. This case is being seen as a major step in holding offenders accountable.

Analysts say the ruling sends a clear signal that racism will not be tolerated—not in stadiums, not online, and not in society. It also reminds fans that the passion of football must be guided by respect, equality, and fairness.

As the Premier League season continues, players, clubs, and fans are uniting in the call to “Kick Racism Out of Football”, ensuring the game is safe and welcoming for everyone—regardless of race, background, or nationality.
