Federal Government Unveils CNG Buses to Enhance Staff Welfare

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to institutional performance and employee well-being with the inauguration of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses at the Federal Ministry of Finance headquarters in Abuja.

This was disclosed in a statement by the ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Mohammed Manga.

Speaking during the commissioning of the buses, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, announced the reintroduction of essential welfare provisions for staff. He noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance morale, drive efficiency, and support the nation’s economic reform agenda.

“This ministry is the engine room of national transformation—and that engine must be well-fuelled,” Edun said.

He explained that the buses were procured under the Presidential Initiative on CNG, aimed at improving staff transportation while promoting a transition to cleaner and more affordable energy sources.

The minister emphasized that the initiative reflects the ministry’s core values of fiscal discipline, transparency, and environmental sustainability. He also announced the reinstatement of monthly welfare packages to support staff as they lead Nigeria’s macroeconomic reforms.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Lydia Jafiya, encouraged staff to remain dedicated, professional, and disciplined, noting that their resilience is key as the nation undergoes critical policy changes—from treasury digitalisation to economic stabilisation efforts.

“As we pursue tough but necessary reforms, the ministry’s internal cohesion and external credibility are vital to achieving inclusive growth and restoring investor confidence,” she said, while commending the minister’s leadership.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, highlighted the programme’s goal of embedding clean transport across public institutions and stimulating local industrial value chains.
