A meeting called by the Federal Government to possibly avert the nationwide strike proposed by Organised Labour has taken place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Among labour leaders present for the meeting are the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero, General Secretary of the Congress, Emma Ugboaja, and General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Nuhu Toro.
On the government side, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajiabiamila, and ministers of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong and Nkeiruka Onyejoecha, respectively, are leading the negotiation.
You will recall that the NLC and TUC had threatened to embark on a nationwide indefinite strike on October 3rd, 2023, to protest the fuel subsidy removal policy of the Federal Government.
The meeting comes just few hours after President Bola Tinubu announced a N25,000 salary award package to low grade civil servants in the country, in his Independence Day Broadcast to the nation today.
