FG Invests in Technical Education, Threatens Action Over Illegal Fees

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to making technical education accessible to every Nigerian child by fully funding all Federal Technical Colleges (FTCs) across the country.

This was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo.

According to the statement, tuition at FTCs will be completely free, with government also covering approved charges, including boarding, uniforms, textbooks, exercise books, prospectus, identity cards, stationery, clubs and societies, medical care, vocational activities, utilities, security, website/e-result services, Skool Media, extra lessons, and insurance.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, stressed that the Federal Government would bear the full cost of tuition to guarantee equal access to technical education. He warned that no principal or administrator is permitted to demand unauthorised fees from parents or guardians, directing that circulars reinforcing this policy be distributed to all schools and parents.

To strengthen compliance, parents have been urged to report any cases of illegal charges directly to the Ministry via its hotlines: 0803 657 6733, 0803 637 3796, or email: tse@education.gov.ng.

Alausa explained that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a pathway to human capital development.

“No Nigerian child should be denied access to technical education because of illegal charges,” Alausa said. “By investing in education today, we are building a stronger, self-reliant Nigeria.”

The Minister clarified, however, that while tuition and other core expenses would be fully covered, students in boarding schools are expected to provide their personal items.
