FG Not Transparent on ₦30 Billion Governors’ Allocation – Barrister Darlington

A political analyst, Barrister Darlington, has accused the Federal Government of hypocrisy and lack of transparency over its claims that state governors received ₦30 billion each from the Federation Account.

Speaking on the popular political programme, Inside Analysis on Voice of the People Television (VOP TV), Darlington recalled that the current administration had announced that all state governors were given ₦30 billion to address economic challenges facing their states.

According to him, the claim sparked widespread disbelief among Nigerians, as no evidence of such disbursement was presented.

“You remember when this government came into office, they said every governor got ₦30 billion. We were all asking, ‘Where is the money?’” Darlington said.

He noted that it was Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who first raised the alarm, publicly denying that any such funds were received by his administration.

“It was Makinde, because he’s a PDP governor, who said, ‘Look, we didn’t receive any ₦30 billion.’ That was when the Federal Government started changing the story, claiming the money was shared during COVID-19,” Darlington added.

He questioned the logic behind the government’s explanation, pointing out that the current administration was not in power during the COVID-19 period.

Darlington described the incident as a clear case of political inconsistency and double standards, accusing the Federal Government of deflecting blame onto governors instead of taking responsibility for its own fiscal management.

“If you are blaming the governors, how about you? What are you doing with the larger share of the national revenue you collect?” he asked.

He emphasized that if the Federal Government were truly accountable and efficient in managing national resources, the states would naturally follow suit.

“If the Federal Government has been up and doing, the states will fall in line,” he concluded.
