First Lady to Nigerians: Let’s work together for a stronger nation

The wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to work harder and remain committed to building a greater nation.

She gave the charge on Wednesday in Abuja while delivering her goodwill message to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

Quoting Gebran Khalil Gebran’s 1925 essay The New Frontier, the First Lady said:

“Are you a politician, asking what your country can do for you, or a zealous one, asking what you can do for your country? If you are the first, then you are a parasite; if the second, then you are an oasis in a desert.”

Mrs. Tinubu also drew inspiration from the famous words of U.S. President John F. Kennedy in his inaugural address of January 20, 1961:

“My fellow citizens, ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world, ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.”

She urged Nigerians to embody these ideals by making sacrifices for national development.
