The police have taken over the popular Ibom Plaza, a recreational centre located in the heart of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital after five persons were reportedly killed and others badly injured in a cult clash on Tuesday.
VOP news learnt that two rival cults groups-Vickings and the Mafians- clashed around 6.30pm on Tuesday. The bloody encounter lasted for about two hours.
The situation could not be contained until police operatives and a detachment of soldiers standing guard at the plaza area intervened. This is the biggest fracas since the #EndSARS protests last year.
However, the Police confirmed the incident but could not volunteer information on the casualty figures in a statement today by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko Macdon.
The CP has therefore, called on residents to go about their lawful duties without fear of molestation as the Command has emplaced adequate security at the Plaza and around the state, throughout the Yuletide and beyond.
