Former Imo State Information Commissioner Commends Anambra Govt for Installing Traffic Lights/Vop

Awka – A former Commissioner for Information and Culture in Imo State, Professor Emman-Owums Owuamalam, has applauded the Anambra State Government for its efforts in enhancing road traffic management through the installation of traffic lights in strategic locations across the state capital.

Speaking at Kwata Junction in Awka, Professor Owuamalam, who is also a senior lecturer at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus, highlighted the importance of obeying traffic lights in ensuring a seamless flow of vehicles. He observed that despite the absence of officials from the Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) or traffic police officers on the roads, many motorists voluntarily adhered to the newly installed traffic signals.

He lamented the tendency of some road users to disregard traffic regulations, noting that such behavior often leads to preventable accidents and damage to public infrastructure. Comparing the situation to practices in developed countries, he stressed that violating traffic signals abroad comes with serious penalties, urging Nigerians to embrace a culture of discipline and road safety.

Professor Owuamalam commended the Anambra State Government for investing in traffic light installations and called on motorists to cultivate the habit of responsible driving. He emphasized that traffic lights play a crucial role in reducing congestion and enhancing road safety.

The installation of traffic lights in Awka aligns with the state government’s broader efforts to modernize infrastructure and improve urban mobility. Residents and commuters have expressed optimism that with proper enforcement and continued sensitization, adherence to traffic rules will improve, leading to safer roads for all.
