Rescue efforts have recovered four additional individuals from the Eternity C, a cargo ship sunk by Houthi forces in the Red Sea, according to a statement from the European Union’s Operation Aspides on Thursday.
Among those rescued were three Filipino crew members and one Greek national serving as part of the ship’s maritime security team. The Eternity C, a Liberian-flagged bulk carrier, had a total of 22 people on board—mostly Filipino crew and three security personnel. This latest development brings the number of people rescued to 10.
An Aspides spokesperson posted on X (formerly Twitter) that 15 crew members remain missing. The rescue operation is being carried out by a private company, the statement added.
Operation Aspides, based in Greece, did not release further details about those who may have been abducted or killed in the attack.
The Houthi militia, which controls large parts of Yemen, has stepped up attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict in October 2023. The group claims its actions are in support of Hamas and targets ships it believes are linked to Israel.
