The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Russia and, by extension, the BRICS platform to promote inclusive prosperity.
She made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday by her Special Assistant on Communication and New Media, Dr. Magnus Eze, following a stakeholders’ interactive session with the Russian Chapter of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance (WBA) at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu noted that Nigeria and Russia, with decades of friendship and collaboration in education, defence, energy, technology, and diplomacy, must now look beyond history and boldly embrace new opportunities for growth.
She emphasized that the administration of President Bola Tinubu had charted a new course through the Renewed Hope Agenda and the “4-Ds” foreign policy approach — Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora.
Commending the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for hosting the event, the minister described her as an excellent example of the transformative power of women in shaping societies and building bridges across nations.
Welcoming the Russian delegation led by Ms. Anna Nesterova, Chairperson of the Russian Chapter of BRICS WBA, Odumegwu-Ojukwu said the visit underscored a shared commitment to building inclusive economic partnerships.
“This underlines the central role women play in reshaping global business, diplomacy, and investment in the 21st century. The First Lady has championed women’s empowerment programmes, education for the girl-child, and systems that enable women to thrive in business, politics, and community development. Her leadership continues to inspire Nigerian women to break barriers, embrace innovation, and contribute more actively to national progress,” she said.
The minister concluded by reiterating Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate more closely with Russia and BRICS partners in advancing shared prosperity.
“We are confident that today’s discussions will provide a roadmap for stronger bilateral relations, deeper people-to-people connections, and new opportunities that will uplift the lives of our citizens,” she added.
