Ghana has dismissed head coach Otto Addo just over 70 days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a string of poor results.
The decision was announced on Tuesday, hours after the Black Stars suffered a 2-1 friendly defeat to Germany in Stuttgart.
Ghana’s latest loss came after a last-minute goal by Deniz Undav sealed victory for the hosts on Monday.
The defeat marked a fourth consecutive loss for Addo’s side, coming days after a heavy 5-1 thrashing by Austria.
The disappointing run of results ultimately led to the decision by the Ghana Football Association to part ways with the coach.
“The association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” the GFA said in a statement.
The body added that it would “communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course.”
Addo, who was appointed in March 2024, leaves the role with limited time for a replacement to prepare the team ahead of the global tournament.
Ghana are drawn in a tough World Cup group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in North America later this year.
The abrupt coaching change raises concerns about the team’s readiness, as the Black Stars now face a race against time to stabilise performance and regain form before the World Cup.
