President Muhammadu Buhari saying he identifies and empathizes with Nigerians on the difficulties they are experiencing as a result of the ongoing cash crunch – a fallout of the Naira redesign policy.
In a nationwide broadcast this morning, President Buhari asked for understanding and patience from Nigerians and reiterated his commitment to his oath of advancing the interest of citizens at all times.
The President said the policy becomes necessary to restore the statutory control of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, over money in circulation.
He further ordered the CBN to allow the old 200 naira notes and redesigned 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes to coexist, saying the old naira notes of 200, 500, and 1000 will continue to be legal tender till Monday, April 10.
