Preparations are underway for the Under-17 CAF Championship, set to take place from March 31 to April 14, as scouting and trials for the Golden Eaglets kicked off at Awka City Stadium. The event aims to strengthen the national team ahead of the competition.

During the screening exercise, the Under-17 National Team Coach, Garba Manu, emphasized that players would be selected strictly on merit and within the specified age bracket. He praised the Anambra Football Association (FA) for organizing the event, noting that it is the first of its kind in the state.

Coach Manu also raised concerns about the lack of infrastructure in some states to nurture young sports talents. He urged the government to invest in sports development, highlighting its potential economic benefits.

The Chairman of Anambra FA, Chikelue Iloenyosi, who was present at the trials, described the event as a significant step in engaging youths meaningfully and promoting sports in the state.
The trials mark a pivotal moment in identifying and grooming future football stars, as Anambra continues to position itself as a hub for sports development.
