Good News! Simplaa to Celebrate Independence Day With Free Rides

As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence anniversary, global ride-hailing company Simplaa is set to debut in Port Harcourt with a promotional offer of ₦5,000 ride credits to the first 100 residents under its “Ride Independence”initiative.

Mr. Isidore Ubajiekwe, Head of Business Development and Strategy at Simplaa Nigeria, announced this in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos.

Simplaa, headquartered in the United Kingdom, is entering the Nigerian market through its subsidiary, Simplaa One Technology, with operations scheduled to begin on October 1.

“To celebrate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, we are giving Port Harcourt residents a reason to celebrate ride independence. The first 100 riders booking Simplaa on Oct. 1 will receive ₦5,000 Independence Day ride credit for free,” Ubajiekwe said.

He added that every new user who downloads the Simplaa App in Nigeria would automatically receive ₦2,750 in trial credits to experience the service.

Ubajiekwe noted that Nigeria’s ride-hailing space has long been dominated by a few players, limiting consumer choice. He stressed that Simplaa’s entry represents freedom to access better service, improved safety, and competitive pricing.

The platform’s features include transparent pricing with upfront fares, multiple payment options—Simplaa Pay Account (SPA), bank transfer, card, or cash—verified drivers, in-app SOS alerts, real-time tracking, a choice of vehicles, 24/7 support, and loyalty credits.

According to Ubajiekwe, Independence Day credits can be claimed after registration on the app. Users will receive ₦2,750 trial credit plus ₦5,000 Independence Day credit, usable only by the first 100 riders booking on October 1. Unused Independence Day credits will expire at midnight, though the trial credit will remain active.

He further explained that Simplaa is investing beyond technology, with a focus on empowering Nigerian drivers and building sustainable income opportunities through training to international standards.

“We are also preparing to introduce airport logistics and executive transfers to ensure riders can travel seamlessly between airports, cities, and premium destinations nationwide,” he said.

Ubajiekwe revealed that following the Port Harcourt launch, Simplaa plans to expand to Lagos and Abuja in the coming months.
