Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Arise News anchor, producer, and reporter, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu.
In a statement issued by his media office on Tuesday, Mbah described her passing as a heavy loss not only to Arise News but to the entire Nigerian media industry.
The Voice of the People (VOP) reports that Maduagwu, a lawyer and broadcast journalist, was killed during an armed robbery attack at her residence in the Katampe district of Abuja on Monday.
While condemning the incident, Governor Mbah extended condolences to her family, colleagues at Arise News, and the wider media community. He also urged security agencies to spare no effort in ensuring that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
โI received with shock and a deep sense of loss the news of Somtochukwuโs tragic death. This is highly condemnable, reprehensible, and cowardly. At just 29, she had already established herself in Nigeriaโs media space as a consummate professional who lit up millions of screens with her superb delivery.
โIndeed, a shining light has been extinguished too soon, a budding superstar cut down in her prime. I call on the security agencies to do everything within their powers to track down her killers and bring them to book,โ he said.
