Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has issued a firm directive to the 13 Local Government Council Chairmen, demanding that all outstanding salaries and pensions be paid by 2:00 pm on Monday, December 23, 2024, or face resignation.
The Governor made the announcement during a Christmas celebration at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki on Sunday, where he expressed his concern over the delayed payments to local government workers. Governor Nwifuru called the situation unacceptable, stressing that it undermines his administration’s commitment to delivering good governance based on the People’s Charter of Needs Agenda.
“I am determined to ensure that good governance is delivered to our people. If you are committed to this cause, stay with us. If not, step aside,” the Governor stated, underscoring the importance of timely salary payments for the welfare of workers.
He also warned that failure to meet the salary payment deadline would lead to the resignation of the Chairmen.
In another part of his speech, Governor Nwifuru announced a special Christmas package for the state’s elderly and widows, approving N50,000, a 25kg bag of rice, and a wrapper for each of the 5,000 recipients who attended the state government’s Christmas event. This move is part of the Governor’s ongoing efforts to support the vulnerable populations in the state.
