The Governor of Enugu State has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the passing of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, describing him as a forthright, courageous, and principled leader who remained steadfast in his pursuit of justice and democracy.
In a condolence message, the governor praised Pa Adebanjo for his unwavering commitment to equity and justice, noting that he always spoke the truth without fear or favor.
“He was a soldier of democracy,” the governor stated. “Whether in the days of Pa Obafemi Awolowo, during the military era, or in the struggle for democracy under the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), Pa Adebanjo was fearless in the trenches, fighting for democratic ideals and the freedoms they guarantee.”
On behalf of his family and the people of Enugu State, the governor extended heartfelt condolences to Pa Adebanjo’s family, the Government and people of Ogun State, Afenifere, the Yoruba nation, and Nigeria at large, acknowledging the immense loss his passing represents.
He prayed for God Almighty to grant the late elder statesman eternal rest and for strength to those mourning his loss.
