The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, on [date] received the PDP National Reconciliation Committee, led by former Osun State Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, at the Government House, Enugu. The meeting focused on fostering peace, unity, and true reconciliation within the party, particularly in the Southeast and across Nigeria.
Governor Mbah reaffirmed Enugu’s position as a stronghold of the PDP, highlighting the state’s unwavering support for the party over the years. However, he cautioned that internal divisions could hinder future electoral success, emphasizing that victory could only be achieved through a united front built on justice, inclusion, and reconciliation.
“We cannot afford to approach future elections with a divided house,” the governor stated. “Many of our members in the Southeast may have felt aggrieved in the past, but the PDP remains a party of brotherhood and shared values. This reconciliation effort is a chance to welcome them back home.”
He acknowledged that while some members had departed the party, many still maintained strong ties to the PDP. He commended the National Reconciliation Committee for their commitment to rebuilding trust, recognizing that patience, wisdom, and tact were necessary for achieving lasting peace.
Governor Mbah also praised the efforts of the Enugu PDP leadership, under Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, for their role in strengthening the party’s grassroots support. He noted that their work was already yielding positive results, with a growing number of former members returning to the party, a sign of renewed confidence in the PDP’s future.
“The PDP remains the only party with the structure, history, and vision to truly serve Nigerians,” Governor Mbah affirmed. “We must restore hope and work together to reclaim our rightful place in governance for the good of our people.”
As the reconciliation process continues, he urged all party members to embrace unity and collective progress, ensuring that the PDP emerges stronger and more prepared for future political contests.
