Vice Chairman, Two Councillors and Others Abducted by Gunmen in Borno

Suspected terrorists have abducted the newly elected Vice Chairman of Biu Local Government Area in Borno State, along with two ward councillors and several other passengers, local sources have confirmed.

The victims — Alhaji Saidu, the newly elected Vice Chairman, and councillors representing Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards — were kidnapped on Wednesday evening while traveling from Biu to Maiduguri. The attack occurred between Kamuya village and Buni Yadi road.

Eyewitnesses say the assailants, suspected to be Boko Haram/ISWAP militants, ambushed the vehicle and forced the travellers into nearby bushland. Several other passengers in the vehicle, which was coming from Potiskum in Yobe State, were also abducted.

One of the kidnapped councillors is the immediate past vice chairman of Biu Local Government, highlighting the severity of the incident.

Residents and local politicians are calling on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abductees. The affected road stretch — from Biu through Buratai, Kamuya, Buni Yadi, and onward to Damaturu — has a history of insecurity, with multiple past reports of killings and kidnappings.

Families of the victims are anxiously awaiting updates as security forces continue their operations in the area.
