Group alleges plot to blackmail Atiku on case against Tinubu in U.S.

A Non-governmental organisation, Face Of Waziri-Nigeria (FOWN), said it has uncovered a plot to blackmail former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The group disclosed this in a statement by Director General, Mr. Bukky Adeniyi, over the weekend.

It claimed the Tinubu-led presidency is enraged and perturbed by dogged moves of Atiku to uncover purported school records of the President, through a court case instituted in the United States of America (USA).

FOWN alleged there are moves to deliberately “blackmail Atiku, to reduce to the barest his popularity in the northern region, through campaigns against his personality.”

It added: “There are strong indications of prevailing confusion within the presidency over the ongoing court case in the USA instituted by Atiku. They are desperately searching for a diplomatic resolution to stop the release of Tinubu’s claimed school records, which might open what we term a Pandora’s Box.

“In order to debar the truth from all Nigerians, they have plans in top gear to engage the media, religious bodies, civil society organisations, political and traditional leaders in the guise of doling out palliatives, having approved the sum of N5 billion to states.”

Meanwhile, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in the 2023 election and aide to Atiku, Segun Showunmi, has said all eyes are on the judiciary because it is the last hope of the citizenry.

He said Atiku’s consistent confidence in the judiciary arose from his background as a democrat, and although the judiciary has a duty to stabilise society, it can’t do so against popular opinion of the people.

Showunmi, during a parley with journalists in Abuja, yesterday, said: “The entire world and even ancestors that have gone are eagerly awaiting this judgment.”

He explained: “Sometimes, the judiciary has a mediating responsibility to stabilise the society. However, the judiciary cannot stabilise the society against perception by generality of the people of that society. If it is the general opinion of the people that something is fundamentally wrong, the judiciary has to let the society understand that it is not called the last bastion of all persons for no reason.”
