Heavy Explosion Rocks Jos

A powerful explosion shook Jos on Tuesday morning, rattling nearby neighborhoods and sending residents into a panic.

Eyewitnesses reported that the blast took place around 10:30 a.m. near the bustling Terminus Market, one of the city’s most densely populated areas.

Early accounts suggest multiple people were injured in the explosion, with some reports hinting at possible fatalities, though details remain unclear. Witnesses described scenes of destruction and widespread panic.

“I was close by when I heard a deafening sound,” said one eyewitness, Gyang Buba, a vendor at the market. “People were running and shouting; it was terrifying.”

Emergency response teams, including police, fire, and medical personnel, quickly arrived on the scene to provide aid. However, the Plateau State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Efforts to reach the Command’s spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, have been unsuccessful, as his phone remained off.

Nonetheless, sources within the police headquarters in Jos confirmed the explosion and noted that an investigation was underway. “The area has been sealed off while investigators work to determine the cause of the blast,” said a security source. “We are urging the public to remain calm and assuring them that every measure will be taken to safeguard their safety.”

The explosion has heightened concerns over security in Jos, a city that has seen periodic violence in recent years. Residents are calling on authorities to step up security measures to protect the area.
