In a heart-wrenching video shared on social media, Zicsaloma recounted how his frail mother was allegedly turned away at LUTH despite her deteriorating condition. According to him, after receiving initial treatment at a private hospital on the Island, they were directed to LUTH where she had undergone her first chemotherapy session. However, upon arrival, the hospital allegedly refused to admit her.
Instead, they were told to take her to a nearby lab for tests. After the samples were taken, they rushed back to LUTH, only to be met with locked gates and refusal of entry. The comedian alleged that even with his mother barely clinging to life, visibly emaciated and unable to stand, LUTH staff denied her access to care or even a place to sit.
Security personnel reportedly informed them she could not be let in until the test results were ready—expected in three hours.
Zicsaloma condemned what he called the cold indifference of the medical staff, claiming that no doctor intervened despite his desperate pleas. He accused Nigerian doctors of lacking empathy, stating: “Our medical team, the doctors of Nigeria, a lot of them are terrible. If you don’t have the connection, if you don’t know people, you’ll just die here.”
His emotional outburst has ignited a storm of controversy, with many Nigerians expressing anger over the state of public healthcare and the treatment of patients in critical condition. The incident raises serious questions about the protocols and priorities of public health institutions in the country.
