Justice Binta Nyako had issued the gag order on April 4, 2025, barring all parties from making public statements or media appearances related to the case. The order followed complaints from Akpabio’s legal team, who argued that public commentary could prejudice court proceedings.
The legal clash stems from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension from the Senate and her public accusations of sexual harassment against Akpabio. Recently, Akpabio filed a contempt motion, claiming that Akpoti-Uduaghan defied the gag order by posting a satirical “apology” on social media. In response, Akpoti-Uduaghan denied wrongdoing, arguing that her post was a form of political expression protected by free speech.
While the court is yet to issue a final ruling on the contempt allegations, today’s hearing is expected to shed light on whether either party breached the court’s order.
