The House of Representatives has called for the timely submission of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) as part of preparations for the 2025 budget. During a recent session, lawmakers emphasized that a

prompt submission of the MTEF is crucial for ensuring a transparent and efficient budgetary process.

The MTEF outlines the government’s fiscal policy and expenditure plans over the medium term, providing a framework for budget preparation and execution. Members of the House expressed concerns that delays in submitting the MTEF could hinder effective planning and implementation of key projects.

Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Hon. Aliyu Betara, urged relevant ministries and agencies to expedite the process to allow for thorough legislative scrutiny. “We cannot afford to have any delays this time,” Betara stated. “The timely submission of the MTEF is vital for us to deliver a budget that meets the needs of our citizens.”

The call for a prompt MTEF submission comes as the government seeks to address pressing economic challenges and improve the overall fiscal landscape in the country. Lawmakers are optimistic that with proper planning, the 2025 budget can effectively tackle issues such as infrastructure development, healthcare, and education.
