House of Reps Member Alex Ikwechegh Caught on Video Assaulting E-Hailing Driver Over Delivery Fee

A member of the House of Representatives, Alex Ikwechegh, has come under fire after a disturbing video surfaced showing him physically assaulting a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, during a package delivery at his residence in Maitama, Abuja.

The incident occurred when Abuwatseya asked Ikwechegh to come outside to collect a delivery of snails. In the viral footage, the visibly irate lawmaker repeatedly slapped the driver and hurled insults, claiming that the driver’s request was disrespectful due to his social standing. Ikwechegh threatened to make the driver “disappear” without facing any repercussions.

In the video, Ikwechegh was heard saying, “Do you know who I am? I can make this man (the driver) disappear in the whole of Nigeria and nothing will happen. Can you imagine this rat? I am not going to give this boy one naira of my money.”

He continued, “I am not going to call my policemen to beat you up, I will do that myself. I will show that I am a big brother to you, tie you up, lie you down and put you in my generator house. Do you know where you are?”

When the driver insisted on receiving the delivery fee, Ikwechegh slapped him multiple times and taunted him about his political status, declaring, “My name is Honourable Alex Ikwechegh, tell them (the public) I slapped you. Call the Inspector General of Police that I slapped you, let him come. Record me very well.”

This incident has ignited public outrage, with many condemning Ikwechegh’s behavior as unbecoming of an elected official.

Ikwechegh recently made headlines after the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal ordered the issuance of a certificate of return to him, following a ruling that disqualified his opponent, Emeka Nnamani, over certificate forgery.

As the fallout from this incident continues, many are calling for accountability and consequences for the lawmaker’s actions.
