The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Martin Amaewhule, has thanked God for preserving his life from kidnap and assassination attempts in recent years.
Amaewhule stated this during his 52nd birthday thanksgiving service held at the All Saints Anglican Church, Eliozu, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
“I am not just marking another birthday but acknowledging that many people had planned to take my life in the last one year, but God didn’t allow them,” he said.
He recalled a traumatic incident in 2008 when he was abducted by armed men shortly after church service. According to him, the assailants followed him home, overpowered his security guard, and took him into the forest, where he was held captive for five days.
“They placed thorns under my feet, inflicted injuries on my head and body, and fed me only biscuits. I almost bled to death,” Amaewhule recounted.
The Speaker, however, said he remained deeply grateful to God for His blessings, guidance, and protection.
“When God does things for you, it is important to appreciate Him for more,” he added.
