Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prevented him from relocating abroad.

In a candid statement during an interview, George disclosed that he had made plans to leave Nigeria permanently, citing frustration with the country’s political system. However, he stated that Tinubu, with whom he has had a longstanding rivalry, intervened and convinced him to remain in the country.

George explained that he had already informed his family and close associates of his decision to relocate. But Tinubu reached out unexpectedly, urging him to reconsider. According to George, Tinubu emphasized the importance of their generation working together to rebuild Nigeria, despite political differences.

“I had made up my mind to leave this country because I was disillusioned with the way things were going. But to my surprise, Tinubu called and said I shouldn’t leave. He told me that we must stay here to build Nigeria for the younger generation,” George recounted.

This revelation has generated significant attention, given the strained relationship between both men, with George being a prominent critic of Tinubu’s political style over the years. Many political observers see Tinubu’s gesture as an attempt to foster unity and reconciliation amid Nigeria’s growing political and social challenges.

George’s decision to remain in Nigeria may also signal a shift in his outlook towards Tinubu’s administration, potentially hinting at new alliances or reduced hostility in the nation’s political landscape.

With this development, Nigerians are watching closely to see if the two veteran politicians will forge a new path towards collaboration, as the nation grapples with economic reforms and governance issues.
