The Independent National Electoral Commission’s office in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State was today attacked by some hoodlums.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the National Commissioner & Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye.
According to the statement, critical facilities were not affected in the course of the attack.
You will recall that INEC office in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State was also attacked on December 1, 2022.
Overall, this is the seventh attack on INEC facilities in five states of the Federation in the last four months.
The Commission has expressed concerns on the consequences of systematic attacks on its facilities across the country and its implications on the conduct of elections in particular and electoral activities in general.
The statement further noted that the attention of the security agencies have been drawn to the latest incident for investigation and prosecution.
