IPOB Freedom : You Won’t Believe Who’s Urging Trump to Free Biafra

Vienna, Austria — An Austrian economist and pro-NATO advocate, Gunther Fehlinger, has called on U.S. President Donald Trump and the European Union (EU) to support the liberation and recognition of the Biafra Republic, describing Nigeria as a failed nation.

Fehlinger made the call in a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, where he urged Western powers to “make up for their failure” to support Biafra during the Nigerian Civil War between 1967 and 1970.

“I call the EU to recognize the Biafra Republic emerging out of failed #ExNigeria @kajakallas and remind the Free World that we failed Biafra in 1967 to 1970 during their liberation war to our eternal shame.
We must make up for our failure and endorse the Biafra Republic now @POTUS,” Fehlinger wrote.

In a separate post on Sunday, the economist also appealed directly to the United States, writing:

“America must liberate Biafra Republic @Biafra_Govt @BiafraMFA.”

Fehlinger’s comments have sparked fresh reactions across social media, particularly among pro-Biafra activists, many of whom have repeatedly accused the Nigerian government of human rights abuses and religious persecution in the South-East region.

The call also comes amid heightened international criticism over alleged genocide against Christians in Nigeria, following statements by U.S. President Donald Trump warning that Washington could intervene militarily if the killings persist.

The Biafra movement, led initially by the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, declared independence from Nigeria in 1967, leading to a brutal three-year civil war that claimed over a million lives. The movement has since re-emerged in various forms, including the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which continues to push for a referendum on self-determination.

Fehlinger, known for his strong stance on NATO expansion and European integration, has previously advocated for the recognition of self-determination movements within Europe and Africa that align with Western democratic values.

As of press time, neither the U.S. government nor the European Union had issued any official response to Fehlinger’s remarks.
