Israeli Drone Strike Kills Hamas Official in Southern Lebanon

The Israeli military announced on Wednesday that it had killed a Hamas commander in southern Lebanon in a drone strike.

According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the attack targeted an area in Sidon, eliminating Khalid Ahmad Ahmad, the head of operations for Hamas’ Western Brigade in Lebanon. The IDF stated that Ahmad was involved in smuggling weapons and orchestrating terrorist attacks against Israel.

Hamas confirmed the strike, mourning Ahmad as a senior figure, describing him as a leading engineer. The group stated that he was killed while en route to perform the dawn prayer in Sidon, located about 40 kilometers south of Beirut.

This attack comes amid a fragile ceasefire that has been in place between Israel and Hezbollah, the Hamas-allied militia in Lebanon, since late November. Both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire terms. Despite the truce, Israel maintains the right to continue targeting militia positions in Lebanon.
