Israeli Forces Intensify Strikes on Gaza City Following Government Approval of Expanded Offensive

Gaza City & Jerusalem – August 21, 2025

Israeli forces have launched a fresh wave of air and ground attacks on Gaza City after receiving official approval from the Israeli government to intensify their military campaign in the region. The decision marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, which has left thousands dead and displaced over a million people across both Gaza and southern Israel.

According to the Israeli military, the operation aims to dismantle Hamas infrastructure and prevent future attacks on Israeli civilians. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the offensive is a necessary step to ensure national security, following months of rocket fire and cross-border violence.

However, the renewed assault has sparked alarm among humanitarian agencies and international observers. The United Nations has warned that civilian infrastructure—such as hospitals, schools, and shelters—continues to be heavily affected, leaving Gaza’s 2.3 million residents with limited access to food, clean water, and medical care.

Eyewitnesses in Gaza City reported overnight bombings that flattened apartment blocks and sent families fleeing for safety. “There’s no safe place left,” said Amal, a mother of three sheltering in a crowded school building. “We just want this nightmare to end.”

On the Israeli side, communities near the Gaza border remain on high alert, with sirens sounding frequently. While some support the government’s military strategy, others are calling for a long-term political solution that prioritizes peace and the protection of all lives.

Analysts say the latest offensive could further deepen the humanitarian crisis and complicate already stalled diplomatic efforts. They urge all sides to return to dialogue and prioritize the protection of civilians above all else.

As international pressure mounts, calls for an immediate ceasefire are growing louder. But for now, the people of Gaza and Israel continue to endure the heavy toll of a conflict that has gone on for far too long.
