It’s Time Kanu Negotiates with the Federal Government — Mr. Fanimo

Abuja — Public affairs analyst, Mr. Fanimo, has urged the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to open channels of negotiation with the Federal Government, saying it is time to let past events go and seek a peaceful resolution.

Speaking during a live program on VOP TV, Fanimo emphasized that continued confrontation will not yield progress, stressing that dialogue and reconciliation are the only viable paths to lasting peace in the South-East and for Kanu’s personal freedom.

“I have always said it — Kanu should negotiate with the Federal Government and let everything that happened be bygone, so he can return to his family,” Fanimo stated.

He explained that prolonged detention benefits no one, and that a mutual understanding between Kanu and the government could help restore calm and unity in the region.

“No matter how justified one’s cause may seem, peace talks are always better than endless hostility. Negotiation does not mean surrender; it means wisdom,” he added.

Fanimo called on both sides to embrace dialogue without pride or political calculation, urging the government to act with fairness and compassion, and for Kanu to demonstrate a commitment to peace and national stability.

“The South-East needs healing, not more tension. The government should listen, and Kanu should also take a step toward reconciliation,” he advised.

Observers note that Fanimo’s remarks align with the growing call for a political solution to Kanu’s detention — a move many believe could de-escalate regional agitation and promote national cohesion.
