No fewer than two persons were confirmed dead today in another boat accident in Dabi village area of Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The Chairman of the affected Local Government Area, Shehu Sule Udi, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, disclosed that it happened on Sunday evening.
According to him, the victims were on their way to a condolence visit from Dabi to Siyango village.
Udi said the bodies of seven out of the 13 victims had been recovered, while the remaining six are still missing.
The Jigawa Police Command Public Relations Officer, Lawan Shiisu Adam, who confirmed the boat mishap, said the search and rescue team was launched with the assistance of local divers, stating that seven people were recovered in the process, while the remaining six are still missing as at the time of filing this report.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the canoe hit an object and gradually sunk while the occupants drowned.
Meanwhile, the police spokesman disclosed that efforts are still in progress toward searching for the bodies of the remaining six victims.
