Jigawa Mandates Hijab for Female Security Personnel

The Jigawa State Government has approved a new policy allowing female security operatives to wear hijabs while on duty.

This was announced by the Commissioner for information, Sagir Musa, during a press briefing at the Government House in Duste. The directive which applies to three private security firms operating within the state, was announced following the State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday evening.

Musa explained that, the decision reflects the government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that respects the religious and cultural rights of all residents, especially women.

“By allowing female security operatives to wear hijabs, the government is empowering them to practice their religious and cultural beliefs without restriction. This decision is expected to boost the morale and confidence of female security operatives in the state.” Sagir said.

He further clarified that, the decision stemmed from recommendations by the Council’s Committee on Schools, Hospital, and Court Security.

According to him, the directive affects female personnel among the 9,969 young people recruited across the state, emphasizing that the move is rooted in the state’s policy of religious and cultural accommodation.
