Jonathan Mourns Ex-IGP Arase, Hails Him as Reform-Minded Officer

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has mourned the passing of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, describing him as a committed patriot, reformer, and accomplished law enforcement officer.

In a condolence message to Arase’s family, made available to the Voice of the people (VOP) on Tuesday in Abuja, Jonathan said the late police chief served the nation with honour, intelligence, and quiet dignity.

Jonathan, who appointed Arase as IGP in 2015, praised his reform-minded leadership, noting that his tenure was marked by the introduction of intelligence-led policing, improved police-community relations, and enhanced internal discipline within the Force.

“Mr Arase served our nation with honour and dignity. As IGP during my administration, he brought not only decades of experience, but also a genuine concern for public safety and human rights,” Jonathan stated.

He added that Arase’s steady leadership contributed immensely to strengthening national security during a critical period in the country’s history.

The former president also highlighted Arase’s integrity and humility, stressing that his contributions extended beyond his service as IGP.

“Even in retirement, he continued to demonstrate his commitment to nation-building, particularly through his leadership as Chairman of the Police Service Commission,” Jonathan said.

He extended heartfelt condolences to Arase’s family, the Nigeria Police Force, and all who had the privilege of working with him, while praying for his soul to find eternal rest.
