Judge Frank Caprio, Beloved for Compassionate Justice, Dies at 88

Judge Frank Caprio, widely known as “America’s Nicest Judge” for his compassionate approach to justice and his viral courtroom moments, has passed away at the age of 88. His death comes shortly after he shared an emotional video asking the public for prayers as he battled cancer.

Caprio, a former Chief Judge of the Providence Municipal Court in Rhode Island, became a global symbol of kindness, fairness, and humanity in the justice system. Millions around the world came to know him through clips of his courtroom decisions, where he often showed empathy to people facing traffic violations, many of whom were struggling financially or personally.

In his final video, shared just weeks before his passing, Judge Caprio said, “I’m asking for your prayers — not just for me, but for anyone going through something difficult right now.
