Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, wife of Adamu Bulkachuwa, a Senator who represented Bauchi North in the 9th Assembly, has defended her judicial integrity.
She was reacting to comments by her husband that he used his position to ask favour for his colleagues from his wife, the immediate past President of the Court of Appeal.
Bulkachuwa on the floor of the Senate at the valedictory session of the 9th Assembly, had said, he encroached upon the freedom and independence of his wife to extend help to his colleagues while she was in office.
Bulkachuwa’s comment had elicited outrage, with Olisa Agbakoba, a former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), calling for the arrest of the former lawmaker.
But in a statement, Justice Bulkachuwa said such insinuation was far from the truth.
She said as President of the Court of Appeal, fellow justices of the court can attest to the fact that she never interfered with the independence of any of the justices of the court in the discharge of their judicial functions.
