Kaduna Govt Commends GAVI, Partners for Boosting Immunisation Efforts Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) shows.

The Kaduna State Government has praised the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) and other development partners for their vital role in boosting immunisation coverage and preventing disease outbreaks in the state.

Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarabe gave the commendation during a visit by the GAVI Nigeria team, noting that partnerships—particularly with the World Health Organisation (WHO)—had been instrumental in expanding vaccine access, strengthening health infrastructure, and improving data systems.

“These efforts have resulted in healthier children, stronger families, and visible impact in our communities,” she said. While acknowledging persistent challenges in remote and security-affected areas, she expressed confidence that the partnership would bring the innovation and technical expertise needed to address them.

Balarabe reaffirmed the state’s commitment to collaboration, continued investment in primary healthcare, technology, and community engagement to build trust and improve health outcomes.

GAVI’s Senior Country Manager in Nigeria, Jessica Crawford, restated the organisation’s mission to save lives by improving access to vaccines, working closely with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), the Federal Ministry of Health, and the Kaduna State Government.

On the issue of “zero-dose” children—those yet to receive any vaccines—Crawford said GAVI was ready to support partners in targeted local government areas to improve routine immunisation performance. She also commended Kaduna for its strong leadership and progress in vaccine coverage.

Dr. Hassan Ousmane, Head of Routine Immunisation at the NPHCDA, assured that the federal government would ensure GAVI’s support is effectively utilised.

Earlier, Dr. Barkunawa Garba, GAVI Nigeria’s Desk Officer, said the visit aimed to increase the number of children receiving routine immunisation and tackle the challenge of zero-dose cases.

The visit included a tour of the Mando Primary Health Care Centre, where the delegation assessed ongoing efforts and challenges, reinforcing the need for sustained collaboration to strengthen Kaduna’s immunisation system.
