Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has distributed bags of rice to families across Southern Kaduna to support constituents in celebrating the Christmas season amid prevailing economic challenges.
The distribution exercise, which covered all eight local government areas in the district, cut across political, religious and social divides, according to organisers. The initiative was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the senator’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Midat Joseph, who said beneficiaries included religious bodies, market women, vulnerable persons, community-based organisations and party supporters from different political affiliations.
Speaking during the exercise, former Kaduna State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Yohanna Allahmagani, described the gesture as a reflection of Senator Katung’s commitment to the welfare of his constituents. “This gesture is part of Senator Katung’s desire to ensure that families are able to celebrate Christmas with joy despite the economic realities facing many households,” Allahmagani said, urging residents to continue to support and pray for the senator.

Allahmagani added that the initiative aligned with the senator’s people-centred approach to representation, noting that Katung has consistently demonstrated concern for the well-being of the people beyond his legislative duties. He assured constituents that the senator would continue to attract democratic dividends to the district through effective representation at the National Assembly.
Some beneficiaries described the distribution as timely and impactful. A community leader from Zango-Kataf Local Government Area, James Bawa, said the exercise strengthened unity across communities regardless of political or religious differences. In a goodwill message conveyed through his media aide, Senator Katung extended Christmas greetings to residents, urging peace, love and unity, while reaffirming his commitment to serving the people of Kaduna South
