Kano empting into ADC as ex-Governor dumps APC

Former Governor of Kano State Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya has renounced his membership from from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He resignation will pave way for his move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC)

In his resignation dated April 5, 2026, and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Gaya LGA, he said his resignation was with immediate effect.

Gaya, who had served as Senator in the previous Senate, added that his defection followed “careful reflection and wide consultations,” noting that his cross away from the APC was in his best interest and the interest of his constituents

“I extend my sincere gratitude to the party for the platform it provided me and for the cooperation and camaraderie extended over the years,” he stated.

Speaking to the media last night on his next political move, Gaya confirmed he was moving to the ADC, adding that he had a cordial relationship with former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and for Deputy Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.

He noted that they were all set to work together towards strengthening and ensuring the success of the ADC in Kano State.

it will be recall that Gaya, an APC candidate in the 2023 general elections, was defeated from the seat by Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, then a candidate of the NNPP who has since crossed over to the APC and is most likely to be given the party’s ticket.
