Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has declared that the All Progressives Congress remains the only party capable of winning elections in Kano State and nationally ahead of 2027.
Mr Yusuf made the remarks while addressing supporters who thronged the streets of Kano to welcome him back from party engagements in Abuja.
In a video circulating on Sunday, the governor dismissed the chances of opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress, insisting that the APC maintains political dominance.
“APC in Kano State is the only winning party. There is no other party that can take control of Kano and Nigeria, by the grace of Allah,” he said.
Mr Yusuf’s remarks come amid broader political realignments and growing competition among parties seeking influence in the region.
Support for Tinubu
The governor reaffirmed loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, pledging Kano State’s support for his re-election bid in 2027.
“We in Kano are fully behind Mr President and will support his re-election,” he said, while commending the administration’s efforts in economic and infrastructure development.
Second-term ambition
Mr Yusuf also responded to critics questioning his political future, stating that he remains confident of securing a second term under the APC platform.
“We did one term in NNPP and left. We will do the second term in APC. There are two terms in APC, the party of the people,” he stated.
The governor urged residents to register with the Independent National Electoral Commission in preparation for future elections.
“I call on all of you to rededicate yourselves to the service of our great party and ensure you register with INEC so that you can come out and support APC in 2027,” he added.
He also pledged continued investment in key sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and youth empowerment.
Mass reception
Speaking on the turnout, Kano APC Chairman, Umar Doguwa, described the crowd as a sign of widespread support for the governor.
The governor’s convoy reportedly took several hours to move from the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport to the Government House due to the large number of supporters, a journey that typically lasts about 15 minutes.
The governor’s declaration signals early campaign positioning and reinforces APC’s strategy to consolidate support in Kano, a critical battleground that could shape the outcome of the 2027 general elections.
