The police have apprehended a group of youths armed with dangerous weapons, aiming to disrupt the elections in Kunchi Local Government area of Kano State.
VOP News gathered that despite the State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, stating that no violence was recorded in the ongoing re-run elections across 60 polling units in six local government areas and three constituencies, reports indicate the arrest of hundreds of armed youths heading towards Kunchi/Tsanyawa Local Government Areas to instigate violence and create fear.
In Tsanyawa local government area, it was observed that some youths reportedly snatched ballot boxes during the exercise.
Meanwhile, the rerun election into the Kano State House of Assembly commenced peacefully in Kura Local Government area, with voters actively casting their ballots.
Our correspondent observed the presence of security personnel in all polling units where the rerun elections are taking place.
Halima Abdullahi, an electoral officer at Kurunsumau ward of Auzinawa Polling Unit, confirmed that the BVAS machine was working well.
Elections are progressing smoothly in almost all the polling units in Kura.
In Garun Malam Local Government, it was observed that election materials arrived on time, and voters turned out early to cast their ballots.
Reports from Rimin Gado and Tofa constituencies indicate that the elections are proceeding without any disruptions.
