A legal practitioner and political analyst, Barrister Darlington, has expressed confidence that it will be extremely difficult for those opposed to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to testify against him in court.
Speaking during a live discussion on current national issues, Barr. Darlington noted that most of Kanu’s alleged “enemies” lack credible evidence to substantiate their claims. He argued that many of them acted out of political interest or personal vendetta rather than genuine concerns about national security.
According to him, “It will be very difficult for Kanu’s enemies to testify against him because the truth is beginning to unfold. Many of those who once accused him are now afraid of the implications of their statements when subjected to legal scrutiny.”
Darlington emphasized that the renewed push for Kanu’s release has gained momentum, especially following recent calls from political leaders and civil society organizations urging the Federal Government to explore political solutions to the matter.
He also urged the judiciary to maintain fairness and transparency in handling Kanu’s case, stressing that justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done.
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu deserves a fair hearing, and anyone coming forward to testify should do so with factual evidence, not sentiments or political bias,” he added.
The comment comes amid growing agitation across the Southeast for the unconditional release of Kanu, who has been in detention since his re-arrest in 2021.
