Kremlin: Putin Won’t Attend Pope Francis’s Funeral

Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose movements abroad are restricted due to an International Criminal Court arrest warrant, will not be attending Pope Francis’s funeral, the Kremlin announced on Tuesday.

Putin is wanted by the ICC overallegations of the forced deportation of children amid Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine and will not be present at the burial of the late Pope on Saturday.

“No. The president has no such plans,” Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters when asked if the president will attend the funeral.
