Former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has raised concerns about the growing spread of poverty across Nigeria.
Speaking at a recent event, Kwankwaso said poverty is no longer restricted to certain regions but has become a nationwide crisis, affecting both rural and urban communities. He explained that high unemployment, rising food prices, and insecurity have all combined to push more Nigerians below the poverty line.
According to him, addressing this challenge requires more than temporary relief. He called for sustainable economic policies, including investment in education, agriculture, and job creation, to give Nigerians a path out of hardship.
Analysts note that Kwankwaso’s comments reflect a wider concern that poverty, once considered a northern problem, has now spread to all parts of the country. For ordinary Nigerians, the message is clear: poverty is a national issue that requires a national solution, not just regional fixes.
