**Ilorin, Kwara State** – Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has officially approved the new minimum wage of N70,000 for public service workers in the state, aligning with the recent Federal Government directive.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, announced that the wage increase would be implemented immediately, effective from October 2024, across all sectors of the state’s public service.

“This decision, which includes consequential adjustments to relevant salary structures, was reached after a successful tripartite meeting involving representatives of the government, the Organised Labour in Kwara State — including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) — as well as representatives from the organised private sector,” the statement said.

Dr. Nuru, who co-chaired the minimum wage committee, praised Governor AbdulRazaq for granting the committee full autonomy in reaching a consensus that benefits all stakeholders.

“The immediate implementation of this new wage highlights Governor AbdulRazaq’s proactive and worker-friendly governance style,” Nuru added, emphasizing the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of public servants and citizens as part of a broader vision for sustainable development and economic stability in Kwara State.

The new minimum wage policy will also apply to workers in the state’s 16 local government areas, further extending its reach to ensure that all public sector employees benefit.

Governor AbdulRazaq’s administration remains focused on improving the well-being of the state’s workforce, prioritizing policies that promote growth and prosperity for all. Dr. Nuru commended the collaborative efforts between the government and labor unions, which made the wage approval possible.

“This new minimum wage underscores the state’s commitment to ensuring that workers’ welfare remains at the forefront of its policies,” she concluded.
