The Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, has issued a stern directive to the contractor handling the LagosHOMS housing project in Ajara, Badagry, to meet the agreed project timeline or face consequences.

The commissioner gave the directive during an inspection tour of the ongoing project, accompanied by the technical team from the Ministry of Housing. He emphasized the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to completing all housing projects to high standards before the end of the governor’s tenure.

Meeting Housing Needs for Low- and Medium-Income Earners

Akinderu-Fatai reaffirmed the state government’s goal of providing quality, affordable homes for low- and medium-income residents. The Ajara housing project features 420 housing units spread across 35 blocks, comprising one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments.

He expressed satisfaction with the construction quality but stressed the importance of adhering to the agreed delivery timeline. “The delivery time must be met so we can commission the project and hand it over to the allottees,” he said.

The commissioner also urged the contractor to report any challenges promptly to ensure that any obstacles are addressed without delay, keeping the project on track.

Focus on Quality Materials and Long-Term Value

Akinderu-Fatai underscored the importance of using high-quality building materials to provide long-term convenience and reduce maintenance costs for future homeowners. He noted that the project is critical to meeting the housing demands of residents in the Lagos West Senatorial District.

“All hands are on deck to ensure that Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision of increasing the housing stock in Lagos becomes a reality,” the commissioner assured.

Permanent Secretary’s Input

Speaking during the tour, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola, urged contractors to seek approval from the Ministry’s technical team for all building materials before installation. He reiterated the government’s commitment to bridging the housing gap through the provision of affordable, high-quality homes.
