Lagos state government urges online transactions unless urgent in Victoria Island

As a means to ease traffic congestion caused by the ongoing rehabilitation of the Independence Bridge, Gov. Sanwo-Olu urges Lagosians to performs online services for non-essentials in Victoria Island the next few weeks.

He made this announcement on Thursday, while inspecting  the construction site with members of his cabinet and senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Works, stating that it will alleviate traffic congestion resulting from the ongoing works on the Independence Bridge.

“Let’s think out of the box. If you don’t have business to do in Victoria Island over the next two to three weeks, conduct your business via social media, telephone, Zoom, or online meetings. Plan ahead—if you don’t need to visit someone physically, then don’t come.” He said.

To alleviate congestion, Sanwo-Olu announced that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will deploy additional officers to the affected areas, including personnel reassigned from other parts of the city.

“You will see a lot of LASTMA officers on the road. We are calling them in from other areas to ensure proper traffic management.” he stated.

He also mentioned that alternative measures, such as counter flow lanes, are being considered to enhance traffic flow. The Independence Bridge, which connects Ahmadu Bello Way to Marina and CMS, was closed for urgent repairs, leading to significant traffic disruptions in Victoria Island and nearby areas.
