YALI Network Lagos Clean-up project

Saturday 16th of August was truly remarkable.
Our July Intending Members Cohort successfully executed their community project – Motorist Refuse Disposal Campaign. 🚍

This trailblazing initiative stands out as one of the most impactful projects by any cohort this year.

Highlights

Installed 20+ mini trash bins inside buses at Makoko Garage, Yaba

Carried out a clean-up exercise in the area.

Recorded an amazing campaign video that will be available later this week.

Donated a large waste bin to further promote cleanliness

The NURTW representative present commended the team, describing the initiative as a transformative step towards ensuring Lagos roads remain clean and free from litter.

Kudos to our July Cohort for this inspiring effort towards a cleaner and healthier community

I'M A CERTIFIED STRATEGIC NEGOTIATOR!

I’m pleased to announce that I recently participated in a Business Negotiation Masterclass. It was a transformative experience that sharpened my strategic thinking, negotiation skills, and leadership capacity.

This certification marks another step forward in my personal and professional growth, and I’m especially proud to have earned it through the prestigious International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) Alumni Association.

I have been further equipped with my background in psychology to consult for individuals and organisations on negotiation skills, relationship management, building leadership capacity, strategic thinking and the psychology of business.

A huge thanks to the outstanding facilitators @peterogudoro and @odunonadipe . Looking forward to learning more from you. I also appreciate IVLPAA president @oketoladayo and the entire team.

THANK YOU MILID FOUNDATION AND UNESCO!

I had the privilege to be part of the a timely and very impactful workshop training on Media and Information Literacy organised by MILID FOUNDATION in partnership with UNESCO for selected youth lead organisations in Southwest region.

The workshop started on the 1st of July with representatives from various youth-led organizations across the South West region in attendance. The workshop unfolded through a series of impactful and enlightening sessions anchored by experienced facilitators like Mrs. Yachat Nuhu Yachat Nuhu, a representative of UNESCO, Dr. Chido Onumah Chido Onumah, Co-founder of the MILID Foundation who spoke about MIL and Democracy, Dr. Suraj Olunifesi Olunifesi Suraj from the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos who spoke about MIL and conflict focusing on intercultural dialogue.

The training continued on 2nd of July with experts and sound facilitators like Prof. Abigail Ogwezzy Professor Abigail Ogwezzy Director, ICE Unilag, who spoke about MIL and Gender Based Violence(GBV), Chiamaka Okafor Chiamaka Okafor, Executive Director of MILID FOUNDATION who spoke about MIL and social media tools and other sound facilitators.

The graduation ceremony took place yesterday, the 3rd of July with some high dignitaries in attendance. A representative of commissioner for Information and Strategy, a representative of Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, representative from The Nation newspaper and some top professors from University of Lagos.

Special appreciation to MILID FOUNDATION @milidfd and UNESCO @unesco for putting this workshop together, I hope to see more of it in southwest region.

YALI Network Lagos organised her first edition of Career and Entrepreneurship Workshop on the 12th of June, 2025 under my leadership as the coordinator of the network.

The workshop equipped career professionals and entrepreneurs with cutting edge skills and knowledge to thrive and advance in a fast changing society. The speakers and panelists are topnotch and they delivered excellence.

It was nice to have Tobi Kuti as a panelist at the workshop, it is amazing to reconnect Ginika Obinna-Okorie and have her as one of our speakers. I appreciate Clementina Amajo for sharing her wealth of knowledge with the participants, Mayowa Adewuyi you're much appreciated for honouring our invite as a panelist at the workshop.

My administration is committed to supporting members growth and development in a holistic approach.

We will continue to do more.

YALI Network Lagos is honoured to have been invited to attend the fireside chat with the U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Richard Mills, Jr., themed: "Towards a Robust U.S-Nigeria Commercial and Investment Partnership" at the prestigious Lagos Business School.

In line with the vision of new government in Washington, the U.S. has signed a CIP agreement with Nigeria, this is a five year MOU that focuses on three key pillars, viz; digital economy, agriculture and infrastructure.

The agreement basically communicated Washington decision to switch from giving aids to Africa nations to making them business partners. this is a wake up call to every young entrepreneurs in Nigeria to get ready to tap into future opportunities.

According to Amb. Richard Mills, Nigeria is the United States second largest trading partner and the most populous country in Africa. These make Nigeria a strategic partner for the United States.

Special appreciation to Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University and U.S. Mission in Nigeria for organising this event. Thanks to Professor Olayinka David-West, Dean of LBS who gave the opening remarks.

Today 3rd of May 2025, we didn't just implemented a project, we touched life. We saw tears rolling down, we saw outburst of emotions and we saw genuine smiles from struggling women.

Our team of volunteers and intending members went to Alimosho, Badagry and Oyingbo area of Lagos to interview some struggling women and then gave them business support fund of #10,000 each.

The fund is small but it was as if we gave them huge amounts. We're particularly excited that we're able to touch ground and really assist people who genuinely need assistance. Some of them thought we gave them loan but couldn't contain their happiness and gratitude when they realize it was a grant.

We appreciate every member of this community for the support given towards this project. We appreciate the energy invested into this. We want to do more of this and we'll continue to create platform for that.

We further plead everyone of us to be more proactive and contribute meaningfully to the development and progress of this hub. We can only get better.

Thank you all. We shall never be small 💪

In a city of a myth in the time of magic, the Destiny of a great Kingdom rests on the the shoulder of a YOUNG boy, His name......You know the rest of you’re into adventure series 😁😁.

What I want us to pick from that monologue is the term *Young* , the Destinies of our own state, our own community rests on our shoulders as young people because we are the Present and the future, *there is nothing for us without us.*

Today as we commemorate the Exemplary Leadership of Nelson Mandela and how against all odds He stood firm for what he believed was right until victory was achieved. Victory for Mandela was to put an End to the cruel Apartheid Regime.

Today Your Struggle Like mine might be with creating safe spaces for other young people to participate in Leadership process or ensuring that we held our political leaders accountable or sometimes Building Sustainable Income to getting a better Life.

What ever your Struggle is aimed at achieving, History has proven that showing Resilience and forging ahead in the face of strong opposition yields the needed results.

Let the story of *Nelson Mandela* charge you to do more.

My Take on Xenophobia

Our continent is without an iota of doubt the richest but the poorest and least developed amongst her counterparts.
This worrisome situation is caused by numerous reasons not excluding hatred, gullibility, lack of visionary leaders greed, etc.
Even if the Nigerians in South Africa are doing illegal stuffs and dominating the citizens, aren't there diplomatic processes of dealing with such issues???
Our continent can never grow with all these senseless acts. Moreso, we present ourselves too cheap to people from the developed part of the world.
I think the best option for now is for our brothers over there to come back home. Let peace be.
And to the South Africans, you need to think the aftermath of your actions.
