The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers State for what it described as overwhelming support during Saturday’s local government elections.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the APC’s victory across the state reflected the confidence of Rivers residents in the party’s leadership.
The Voice of the People (VOP) reports that the APC clinched 20 out of the 23 chairmanship seats contested in the elections.
“This victory is yet another unmistakable indication of strong confidence in the APC-led administration of President Bola Tinubu,” Morka said.
He noted that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda continued to deliver transformative and people-oriented governance across the country.
The APC spokesman commended party leaders, members, and supporters for their dedication and resilience, while also praising the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and credible exercise.
Morka urged the newly elected council chairmen to prioritize service delivery, transparency, and inclusive governance at the grassroots level.
He, however, rejected allegations of electoral malpractice raised by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, describing them as “a smokescreen to cover the poor showing” of his African Democratic Congress (ADC).
According to him, Atiku’s claims were also aimed at inciting tension and strife in the state.
“Again, our profound gratitude remains with the Rivers electorate for their highly valued support. Together, we will build a stronger and more united Rivers,” Morka added.
